Tones NYC was a meetup hosted by @PortraitGames AKA @AGameOfTones, and sponsored by Hex Brand. The meetup went down on August 26th of 2018, and it was pretty insane. There were so many more people that came out to the meet than i thought would. The meetup’s location was in Brooklyn Bridge Park, though I met up with some friends (who were also models and photographers) in soho first, then headed down to the meet location. With an amazing view of the manhatthan skyline, the Brooklyn Bridge, and the Statue of Liberty in the distance, Brooklyn Bridge Park is a pretty popular park here in New York. It’s surrounded by neighborhoods such as Brooklyn Heights, and Dumbo. This also makes it one of the most popular areas in New York City where engagement and special event photo shoots are done. You’ll most likely spot quite a few photo shoots on any day of the week if you visit the area.
When we got to Dumbo and got out of the train, we stopped and took pictures in Brooklyn Heights on our way to the meet. The streets had a nice look with the red and white bricks on the buildings, and the canopy of trees crossing over the pretty empty streets. When we got to the meet, there were so many people. As you can see in the picture below, it was pretty packed. The hosts announced the meet, got everybody started and kept everything pretty organized while shooting. Trying to keep everybody together, we slowly made our way up the side of the park closer to the bridge and eventually ending up on the other side of the bridge, right in front of Jane’s Carousel. Although it was only half a mile away, it took us a couple hours to get there because photographers stop at every interesting bush (guilty as charged).
When we finally made it to the carousel, we took pictures there too for about half an hour, and then the hosts announced the ending of the meetup, and thanked everybody for coming out. Everybody had an amazing time and there were so many cool pictures from the meetup being posted the next couple weeks. Meetups aren’t for everybody, as they can get pretty hectic, and sometimes it’s hard to get the shot you want with 20 other photographers using your tripods, but they’re always fun to attend even if you dont take that many photos, you get to meet a lot of cool new people with creative minds.
